The people
behind WAYA
Five founders from Glarus. One shared conviction: natural energy deserves an honest brand.
From Ecuador to Glarus
WAYA grew from a simple idea: to make the power of the guayusa plant — its use is documented for around 1,500 years — accessible in a modern, honest drink. No artificial additives, no empty promises.
The name WAYA comes from «Wayusa», as the Kichwa in Ecuador call their plant. Our guayusa grows in the Chakra, the forest garden of the Kichwa — in the shade of large trees, among other crops. The Kichwa were using it as a natural source of energy long before energy drinks existed.
It is produced and bottled in Switzerland — with the standard we know from here: high quality and transparent origin. We source our guayusa through our partner Matchachin, which works with Kichwa families in Napo province. That's how we bring two worlds together: Ecuadorian tradition with Swiss quality.
It began in the family: Samuel's father Renan brought the guayusa and the first recipe. At Namaste in Glarus it became a drink served on tap, at the Landsgemeinde in Glarus it met the public for the first time — today it comes in a can.
